The English curriculum is built around the three interrelated strands of Language, Literature and Literacy. Together, the three strands focus on developing students鈥� knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Learning in English is designed to build on concepts, skills and processes developed in previous years. As they progress through their schooling, students will read and engage with more complex texts and further develop their critical and creative thinking skills.听
In English and English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes, students interact with others for a variety of purposes. They engage with a range of texts for enjoyment, as well as discussing and responding to literary texts in different ways. Students create a range of written and multimodal texts, including aesthetic, imaginative, reflective, informative, persuasive and/or analytical texts for different audiences.听
Students are required to study the Australian Curriculum: English from years 7 to 10.
In SACE Stage 1, students are required to study English and achieve a C grade or better in both semesters to receive 20 Literacy credits. In the SACE curriculum, there are different English courses available to students: English, Essential English, English Literary Studies and English as an Additional Language (for eligible students).
Study of English in SACE Stage 2 is not compulsory, but the majority of students will choose to continue their study of English in their final year.听
